Happy Birthday, Sesame Street
I've put up several posts at my blog A History of New York over the last week about Sesame Street's 40th anniversary, which officially occurs today. Check them out: Part I, II, III, IV. Did I leave out anyone's favorites?
I have very clear memories of my sister Mandy alerting the whole household whenever John John -- the kid in the photo -- came on.

I don't even remember that. I'm glad that someone remembers it. My big kids watched Sesame street when they were little, but ever since we hit the DVR stage of our life, it has been replaced by Dora and Little Einsteins. Sorry Big Bird!
ReplyDeleteI think that's why I'll take DVD over DVR ... I just can't help thinking those old episodes were somehow better than kids' TV today. One thing may be that Sesame was really designed for older pre-schoolers but more recent TV targets kids younger and younger -- hence Elmo. Zoiks!
ReplyDeleteI do remember you running through the house when John John came on. Do the videos themselves seem familiar? That one of him counting to 20 is permanently in my brain.
I didn't remember John John until I saw his picture. Then we watched all of his clips on your other blog. What an adorable kid! Mom
